Website Design

What does a well-designed and well-developed website need to have? The layout of the website should be user-friendly. The link structure of the website should be search-engine friendly. And the navigational menu should give the visitor a good overview of what the website has to offer.

While the website's layout and graphic design (colors, fonts, graphics, pictures, etc.) are up to the designer, it is very important to consider some psychological facts in regards to web design. For example, links should never be red, since the color red signals stop. Keep the links in a menu or list close together. Avoid making the visitor scroll vertically, and even horizontally unless the text requires it.

Make sure you optimize your graphics and images for the web so your site does not take forever to load for visitors with a slow internet connection. A fast loading website is very important.

Avoid using funky, colorful backgrounds that make it difficult to read the content or text.

Your index or home page is the most important page of your website. Try to give the visitor a good overview of the content of your website. Make it as easy as possible for your visitors to find the information they are looking for.

Add a contact form, or email address link to your website. A sitemap is also very important. Not only does a sitemap make it easier for your visitors to find their way around your site, but search engines love them!
